The University’s Policy on Conflicts of Commitment and Interest requires Academic Staff to disclose and obtain prior approval for outside activities that may conflict with their university duties.
The Report of Non-University Activities (RNUA), located in START myDisclosures, is the form that Academic Staff use to disclose these activities. The RNUA must be completed within 30 days of the start of a new hire and annually during the update period each September.
2025-2026 Schedule for Annual Completion of RNUA for AY26
| August 16, 2025 | Campus Deans, Directors and Department Heads, and System Office Unit Directors notified of upcoming RNUA process and schedule |
| September 15, 2025 | Employees notified of RNUA submission deadlines |
| September 29, 2025 | RNUA submission deadline |
| October 20, 2025 | Unit-level review deadline |
| November 10, 2025 | Second level of review deadline |

Who is involved in the RNUA workflow process?
- Discloser (person who is disclosing information)
- Unit Executive Officer (UEO) at first level of review (usually a department head or chair)
- Unit Executive Officer (UEO) at second level of review (usually a director of the school or a college dean)

Step 1: Discloser Submits RNUA
Discloser submits RNUA. The RNUA routes to the Unit Executive Officer at the first level of review, usually the department head or chair.

Step 2: UEO Receives RNUA to Review
The first-level Unit Executive Officer (UEO) receives the RNUA and completes the initial review. One of three things can happen:
- Approval:
The Unit Executive Officer determines that the activity does not present a conflict of commitment and/or interest and approves the activity. (The routing process is complete, if this happens.) - Returned for Revisions:
The Unit Executive Officer has questions about the disclosed activity and returns the RNUA to the discloser for revisions. (In this case, the RNUA will route back to the Discloser for any updates needed.) - A Conflict Exists, Further Review is Needed:
The Unit Executive Officer determines that the activity does present a conflict of commitment and/or interest. The RNUA, along with a conflict management plan, must be forwarded for further review to the second level of review, such as a school or college. (The RNUA is routed for a second level of review.)

Step 3: Review by Second-Level UEO
The Unit Executive Officer (UEO) at the second level of review (usually the director of the school or the dean of the college) reviews the RNUA and the management plan. One of two things can happen:
- Approval by Second-Level UEO
The UEO at the second-level determines that the management plan is acceptable and approves the RNUA. (The routing process is complete, if this happens.) - Returned for Revisions to the First-Level UEO
The director or dean has questions about the activity or conflict management plan, and returns the RNUA to the first-level UEO (department head) for revisions. Once the questions are addressed, the UEO at the first-level of review must resubmit the RNUA and conflict plan to the UEO at the second level of review.
