If your research project has a qualifying FCOI sponsor (such as Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Energy, NASA, and other funding agencies), there are additional steps that you’ll need to complete. Explore more about what FCOI reporting is and who needs to complete it here.
The FCOI requirements that apply to your qualifying research may include:
- Complete FCOI training
- FCOI disclosures (report significant financial interests using the Sponsor Specific Questionnaire or SSQ)
- Certify that personnel are compliant or will be before the award
- Document FCOI training and disclosure compliance
- Identify and report financial conflicts of interest (FCOIs)
Complete FCOI training
Who needs to complete this training?
Investigators and research team members who have a qualifying FCOI sponsor (such as Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Energy, and NASA)
(*General requirement)
When must FCOI training be completed?
- prior to engaging in research
- every four years thereafter
- immediately when any of the following cases apply:
- The university revises the Policy of Conflict of Commitment and Interest and procedures in any manner that affects the requirements of the investigator to comply with the regulation;
- An investigator is new to the University of Illinois;
- The university finds that an investigator is not in compliance with the university’s Policy on Conflicts of Commitment and Interest or with the university-approved management plan.
